enter the unhomely

a life in the liminals enter the unhomely is a no action cinematic journey through the freudian notion of the unheimliche stripped of automata & humanoid replicas to expose the raw strangeness of liminal spaces in dysphoria where do you exist when you no longer recognise your body in the mirror it dwells in the in between of early adulthood exploring the eerie thresholds of identity & spatial disorientation where the familiar becomes hallucinatory & every room feels like a transit zone the vaseline on the lens recreates the sensation of a drug trip blurring clear signals like street signs edges visual contours combined with my phones wide angle it amplifies spatial deformation im trying to show how spatial discomfort operates in a world where adulthood career cooking going out & travel are gendered structures & how refusing gendered categorisation often looks like infinite wandering with no destination only loops unhomely tells the story of loneliness from club queues to forest walks in berlin from haunted tunnels before a date to late night crossings through daffodils empty buildings crossroads subways football courts but also the awkwardness of routine i photograph my flatmate buying meat cleaning glasses doing groceries i am here but dont understand the gestures i remain absent from the domesticity the notion of the unhomely is reversed here there is no need to show automata because my point of view is the automatic point of view anchored in the memory of movement routine & motricity i think the gesture i stand up i walk i eat i get dressed but the body that responds to the command is no longer mine presence in this series exists only through the phantom trace of my nail extensions caught in the corners of the frame failing embodiment unhomely comes from the feeling of living in a dollhouse everything is perfectly clean but unused i dont use the kitchen i dont read the books i dont play with the toy. i only make sure things stay clean & in their place wanting to be a doll ultimately leads to uninhabiting the world the series highlights the dizziness of not controlling space or narrative the only ability being to walk without stopping like a night drive down a highway watching city lights from a car window & the constant sensation of movement as the only form of stability i have hundreds of songs to listen to or recommend while looking at these pictures
